FMP: Spirals comic strip

 

 

 

I have developed the double page comic strip based around the Spirals tale from SUM: Forty Tales from the Afterlife. The comic strip presenting the connection between text and image for the tale. I coloured the background of some of the illustrations to fit well with the colours used within the illustrations. 

I layered out the comic strip to follow more of a comic based format, but still be unique and not completely like other comic strip layouts due to the unknown nature of the afterlife.

These are the Photoshop colour versions of the illustrations. I coloured the illustrations again similar to the reference I illustrated them from. I again used a range of colours which I believed had a good flow and would make the comic strip visual more interesting.

 

I now intend to start with the development of the Spirals comic strip.

FMP: Spirals written texts

I have written down the sections of text I illustrated from the tale which I intend to use as part of the Spirals comic strip along side the illustrations. Like Descent of Species I wanted a clear link between text and image on the comic strip.

These are the illustrations I developed based around the Spirals tale from SUM: Forty Tales from the Afterlife. I selected pieces of text from the tale which I gained visuals for why reading through like I did for the Descent of Species tale.

 

I found IStock photo references which I related to the visuals I wanted to illustrate from certain pieces of text from the chapter. Some of the illustrations will become part of the same image when scanned and transferred to Photoshop to develop the double page comic strip based around the tale. I wanted to develop more of a visual humour for this comic strip as while reading the tale their was more of a humour element towards it than Descent of Species. 

 

Some of the visuals I redeveloped as I believed some of the illustrations were not of a high enough quality compared to the other illustrations.

These are the double page comic strip I developed based around the Descent of Species tale from SUM: Forty Tales from the Afterlife. I included both the illustrations and written text together to present the visuals I gained from the texts, and the colour element I developed for them. I added background colours to the illustrations which I believed best matched the colours of the illustrations and what each illustration is representing. 

 

The comic strip presenting certain elements of the tale from the book presenting a shorter version of the story showcasing visuals which presents my connection between text and image from the tale.

I layered out the comic strip to best fit in the illustrations and text representing the story nature of the illustrations in order, but to still have the images follow a basic comic layout, which is still different to most used layouts. I wanted to have a layout which is similar to other comic strip layouts, but still be unique and different due to strange, unique and unknown nature of the afterlife.

 

   

FMP: Descent of Species: Photoshop colour illustrations

 

I scanned my drawings and transferred them to Photoshop which I coloured using the colour filter. I coloured the illustrations based around the original references so there is more of a sense of realism towards the images. I also used a range of colours which were intended to work well together for the illustrations creating a colourful interesting flow between the illustrations.

 I also coloured the title font for the tale in a strange lime green to present the strange, and descent element within the story. 

I intend to start the development of the first double page comic strip based around the tale.
